Midpoint: Excellence by Sustainability, Tradition, & Community

Feb 2, 2024 | Featured

Nestled in the heart of the Paso Robles wine-tasting region, Midpoint Winery stands as a beacon of sustainable winemaking, family tradition, and community connection. With a commitment to sustainable farming, hands-on craftsmanship, and fostering meaningful connections, Midpoint Winery is a unique gem you don’t want to miss. If you’re visiting Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo, it’s well worth the trip!

Midpoint takes pride in being a steward of the environment. With a dedication to sustainable farming, the entire vineyard is cultivated organically, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural ecosystem. A notable aspect of their commitment is the practice of dry farming in a portion of their vineyard. Dry farming, which relies solely on natural rainfall, minimizes water usage and encourages deep-rooted vines, resulting in more nuanced grapes that reflect the terroir.

Blake Franco, Head of Hospitality, explained to us, “We’re not interested in getting certifications just to have them, we’re more concerned with doing what’s responsible for the earth and hope other producers will follow in our path.” The winery’s ethos revolves around doing everything possible to keep the environment and wines as natural as can be.

Midpoint Winery is more than just a winemaking establishment; it is a family affair dedicated to the art of winemaking, over mass production. This small, family-owned winery places quality above quantity, emphasizing the craftsmanship and dedication required to produce exceptional wines. What sets Midpoint apart is the intimate involvement of their winemaker in managing the vineyard. This hands-on approach ensures a deep connection between cultivation and winemaking, resulting in wines that truly express the land and bring the best to each bottle.

Every wine brings uniqueness to each vintage and different stories of a family passionate about their craft. It’s inspiring to learn the family’s young daughter even named one of their wines, “Kickover” after “a gymnastics move and euphemism for the strength and power of women and kicking over established norms.” What’s not to love?

Even the name, “Midpoint” exudes passion for community connection beyond the family, extending to the community. They say, “A midpoint is a connection”. The winery is not just a place to savor remarkable wines; it is a space designed for forging connections, which is just one of the reasons they’ll be opening up a new location in downtown Paso Robles later this year. They believe in the power of wine to bring people together, fostering shared moments and creating lasting memories. Each sip tells a story, and Midpoint Winery invites everyone to become part of that narrative.

Your visit to Midpoint will be extraordinary. From the delightful wine flight to tantalize your taste buds to unraveling the unique stories woven into each bottle, it is a journey of discovery. Exploring the historical vineyard and delving into the family’s inspiring voyage into the realms of wine and viticulture creates a fun and unique connection to the experience. Midpoint not only will impress with exceptional wines and ethos but also will enchant with the narratives that make each sip a testament to the passion and hard work of the team behind this boutique winery.
