Limited Production
Villicana Winery, a family-owned gem in Paso Robles, invites wine enthusiasts to savor their meticulously crafted, limited-production wines. With a yearly output of around 2,000 cases, proprietors Alex and Monica Villicana personally oversee every vintage, ensuring a superior product. The couple's dedication to low yields results in intensely concentrated fruit, a hallmark of their esteemed 13-acre vineyard. The tasting room, nestled in the heart of the working winery, provides an authentic, immersive experience, often with the proprietors themselves eagerly engaging visitors.
Alex and Monica's journey in winemaking traces back to 2002 when they established their Paso Robles tasting room. Alex's culinary aspirations shifted towards winemaking, leading to a pivotal harvest job in 1990. This experience ignited his passion, culminating in the creation of the Villicana label. In 1993, the couple acquired 72 acres on Paso Robles' Westside, drawn by the climate and limestone-rich soil. The meticulously curated 13-acre vineyard boasts varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel, epitomizing Bordeaux meets Rhone.
From vineyard tending to harvest, crushing, and winemaking, Alex personally manages every facet of production. This hands-on approach ensures consistency and quality, distinguishing Villicana Winery as an estate of excellence. With an annual production of fewer than 2,000 cases, the focus remains on crafting memorable, food-friendly, small-lot wines. In 2011, the Villicanas ventured into distillation, birthing RE:FIND Distillery. Using prized free-run juice from their vineyard's red grapes, they handcraft vodkas and gin. The distillery also collaborates with local brewers to create unique California whiskeys, showcasing an innovative and sustainable vineyard-to-bottle operation built on passion.
