In 1977, Roger and Cheryl Janakus started their winemaking odyssey in Illinois, purchasing a property in Lemont. Roger's longing for genuine wine grapes grew amidst a modest row of table grapes. Inspired by visits to Napa and Sonoma, he envisioned cultivating wine grapes in Michigan. A 145-acre farm was procured, becoming the canvas for their vinicultural dreams.
In pursuit of winemaking seriousness, Cheryl proposed a move to California. In 2000, they settled on ""Journey's End Ranch"" in Paso Robles, a transformative endeavor marked by meticulous soil preparation, infrastructure development, and planting. This commitment yielded a flourishing vineyard, and the Janakuses expanded with new facilities and a ranch on the East Side, now the heart of their esteemed winery and tasting room. Journey's End Ranch/Stranger Vineyards stands as a testament to their unwavering pursuit of vinicultural excellence, blending passion and persistence in every bottle.
