Nestled in Paso Robles, Rasmussen Family Vineyards & Winery embodies an affinity for the local wine heritage. Larry and Elaine Rasmussen's union at Cal Poly in the 1960s fostered their deep-rooted connection with the region. Elaine, a native of San Luis Obispo, hailed from a lineage steeped in local history. The couple frequently brought their children to Paso Robles, forging enduring ties with the area.

The winery is a tight-knit family endeavor, with Larry, Elaine, son Niles, daughter-in-law Wendy, and granddaughter Kristin actively involved. The vineyard sprawls over twenty acres, predominantly devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Plans are afoot to diversify the varietals, adding new dimensions to their exceptional produce.

Niles, the family's winemaker, brings a unique blend of attributes to the craft. Armed with the precision of an engineer and a profound understanding of vine physiology, Niles is equipped with a discerning palate and a familial dedication that breathes life into their wines. For Niles, winemaking is an orchestration of nature's gifts, where their role is to create the ideal environment for nature to flourish.

A visit to Rasmussen Family Vineyards & Winery promises not just exceptional wines but a chance to meet the family behind the labor of love that defines this cherished Paso Robles boutique winery.

We have been wine club members for years now. When we first visited the vineyard, we approached with some skepticism. The parking area was littered with various bits of vineyard detritus, there were dogs roaming around and there was no signs to indicate where the tasting room was. Once inside, the tasting room was sparse and not horribly inviting. Then we met the people and the experience flipped. They were kind, funny, and knowledgeable. We got three pours into the tasting and were asking for a club sign up sheet. Since then, we have joined and left several other wine clubs, but this one will stay for as long as they keep making great wines!

The wine here is extremely good, not unlike an expensive vineyard in Napa. Only big difference is that the vibe is super fun, happy, not pretentious, casual, greeted by cute happy dogs, and the wine maker himself pouring his creation. Beautiful balanced quality flavor with a point of view. Honestly tastes like high end Napa product but with a way cooler and casual experience!I don’t normally leave reviews - but this place was way too cool to not 🙂

One of the best qualities of this vineyard is not only the wonderful quality of the wine but the quality of the people who make it, who put their hearts into it, and that is what makes the wine so special.I highly recommend Rasmussen winery, you will not regret trying it, my favorites are the Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon. Cheers 🥂

I was introduced to this wine few years ago while visiting a friend in San Diego.. this year had the opportunity to visit Paso.. and this winery was at the top of my list.. and as that saved it for the last one of my three day winery visit.. they are family owned and produced.. very fruity, robust reds.. full body.. good choice for aging. It will be a must visit next time I’m back there and look forward to their out of state shipping option.

Small production, terrific wines. If you are looking for hidden gems of Paso this is one. Update: back again 3 months later and left with a wine membership. Their Merlot and syrah's are some of the best around.
