The Santa Maria Wine region is one of the oldest and most unique regions on the Central Coast. Grape growing in the Santa Maria Valley can be traced back to the early Mexican Colonial period in the 1800s, and it was one of the Central Coast’s first officially approved American Viticultural Areas (AVA). Additionally, Santa Maria Wineries benefit from its unique transverse, east-west geography, where coastal mountain ranges create a valley opening to the Pacific Ocean, allowing cool maritime influences to sweep through the vineyards, creating unique flavor profiles.
Santa Maria wine tasting has over 30 wineries to choose from with unique, limited-production Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and many other varietals. This humble region often becomes a favorite for those who are lucky enough to find it.
